TRENTHAM TRACK NOTES PREPARATION OF ZETES [feom our own correspondent] WELLINGTON. Tuesday Tho Trentham tracks are very quiet at present, there being very little doing and Jew /horses in work that can lay claim to consideration for important events in the near future. S./ J. Reid has not brought his team to the tracks for some days, but has worked' on the hills. Agrion's brother Zetes, who at the yearling sales in 1929 was bought by Mr. V. Riddiford for the record price of 2100 guineas and has not yet raced, continues to make good progress in his preparaPahu will not. race again until the Wellington meeting, when he may be given a race over steeplechase country. Ho is in good order and to-day finished his work with a five-furlongs sprint. The attempt to make a jumper out of Joie de Val is not meeting with much success. Yesterday she got rid of A. Jenkins by refusing. and to-day, with I. Rohloff in the eaddle, she resolutely refused to jump and eventually got rid of him alstf.. _ Cottesmore is not a regular visitor to the tracks, but he is looking well and goinj: nicely on any tasks that are required o him. He figures among the spring entries in Australia. . . ~ . There was a little sprinting this morning on the trial grass, which was soft and preasv after a frost. Epigram and Missfire did the smartest .half in 515s First V,ew. carrying more weight, was better ■ dinal Moon in 535. while Red Top and Chile took 555. Dignified March snnnted with a Chief Ruler two-year-old.. Dignified Marcli lightened up a. lot with his racing at Otakl. hut is now doing well again. . . Lyrical is back at Trentham trained under the supervision of her owner. J. W. LOWE'S MELBOURNE TRIP RETURNING AT END OF MONTH [from our own correspondent! WELLINGTON. Tuesday The Trentham trainer J. W. Lowe will return from Melbourne at the end of the month with Red Sun and Sage. They' ha\ e had an unprofitable trip, auite the from what track-watcliers anticipated when they went away. Sage at the time looked a most promising maiden. 1 ossibly "t- wiU require more time. Both horss are '}£ e '. y to race at the Wellington meeting on thenreturn. L..*e will find Normandy in good order also for the meeting. He has no* done fast galloping, but l is got through plenty of strong, useful work. HORSES FOR AUSTRALIA DESERT STAR AND MUSTANG Arrangements are being made by the Te Aroha trainer C. E. Mallowes to leave for .Sydney with Desert, Star and Mustang on June 23 Desert Star has been nominated for some of the important spring' handicaps in Australia, including the Metropolitan Stakeß. the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup. _ ~ ,i Desert Star is a five-year-old Balding by Bandstar from Rose Novis and ho has shown very useful form this season, his best e "ort being his success over a mile and a-auarter at Pukekohe. Mustang is a t s rc^ e A r ,", < Jv Hding by Musketoon from Lady Ledbuiy. has not had much racing, but he displayed some promise at Rotorua. raced in novice company, running second on the first day and winning on the second clay. HUNTINGDON'S CONDITION The racing he had in Auckland recently has wrought improvement in Huntingdop s condition, and it should not he is showing a return to form At. his last start Huntingdon was one of the leaders in'.o the straight, in the Kins: Geore Handicap, seven furlongs, at , Ellers Y. and as he galloped a solid. bis °ngs at Hastings o n Tuesday, he !s to be left, out of calculations in the Heretaun.,a Handicap to-day. CYLINDER TO REAPPEAR One of the interesting features oi the Hawke's Bay meeting to-dav will be the reappearance of Cylnder in the Ileretaunga Handicap. Unsoundness has interrupted Cylinder's racing career more than once since he was a three-year-old. in tho 1930-31 fce nson, and he has not > lad , » rac^J'ucArunning unplaced in the Final Handicap at Rnftdwick last October. Cylinder is a good horse if he can be kept sound, and he should be capable of winning more races if all goes well with him.
