THE GOLDEN HARVEST
EXAMINATION PROCEEDING The examination of the American steamer Golden Harvest by surveyors is still proceeding in the floating at Wellington. The vessel went ashore at the entrance to Wellington Harbour when outward-bound 011 May 30, being subsequently refloated. The examination was delayed when it became necessary to remove two plates that were jammed against the double bottom of No. 1 hold 011 the starboard side. The work of discharging timber from No. 1 hold is being continued. As stated previously, the Marine Department had 110 jurisdiction to hold a formal inquiry into the circumstances of the vessel's grounding 011 Barrett's Reef, but by arrangement with the Consul-General of the United States an informal preliminary inquiry was held. The evidence from the informal inquiry has been, considered by the Marine Department, which will not take any further action in the matter, but a copy of the evidence has been given to the Consul-General so that he can send it to America.
