WAITANGI TREATY
PAINTING OF THE SCENE GIFT TO LORD BLEDISLOE A replica made by Miss Ida M. Copeland of a, painting of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi was pre-, sented to the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe at Government House on Saturday morning. The presentation was made by Mr. G. A. Snedden, president of the Sacred Heart College Old Boys' Association. On a visit paid to the college last year His Excellency had expressed admiration of the original painting executed by the late L. J. Steele. In making the presentation Mr. Snedden was supported by Bishop Liston, Dr. Buxton, Brother Remigius, Brother Gerard and members of the executive of the Old Boys' Association of the college. Mr. Snedden said that with the picture went the warmest esteem of the old boys of the collpge. In returning thanks, His Excellency said it would be handed over to the Waitangi National Trust Board to be placed in one of the rooms of the restored Treaty House. He mentioned that two of New Zealand's leading architects, who were giving their services free of charge, were at present engaged on the work of restoration. His Excellency expressed appreciation of the efficient manner in which the institutions under their care were conducted by the Marist Brothers.
