FRENCH VISITORS

AFTERNOON TEA PARTY A very enjoyable afternoon tea was given by Commander J. Rosati on board the French war sloop Savorgnan de Brazza on Saturday, when a number of Auckland people who have offered hospitality to the visitors were their guests. The sloop was gaily decorated with bunting and an awning enclosed the upper deck, upon which tea was served. Concealed music added to the pleasure of the occasion, and during the afternoon many of the guests wero shown over tho ship under the guidance of officers and sailors. The ceremony of hauling down tho flag at sunset while a few bars of tho Marseillaiso were played on the bugle was one that appealed to the onlookers by its simple impressiveness. Tho guests, who were received by Commander Rosati and M. Edouard Joubert, Consul for France, included representatives of tho Navy and Army, members of the consular corps and their 1 wives, French residents in Auckland, and members of the Auckland French Club.
