HARRIER RACING

CLUB RUNS DECIDED TECHNICAL OLD BOYS' EVENT The Technical College Old Boys' Athletic Club held a harrier run on Saturday afternoon from the home of Mr. T. H. Wilson, club vice-president. The course of about 71 miles was nil road with the exception of the climb over One Tree Ilill. The run was held as a training preparation for the annual Onehunga to Auckland road race on July 8. A fast pace was set by each pack throughout. The runs home resulted:— Slow pack: Day, 1; Adams, 2; Coulam, 3; Gibbs, 4. Intermediate pack: Barker, 1; Hardin:?, 2; R. Brown, 3; Dawson, 4. Fast ' pack: Pelham and Oeoper, dead-hcat, 1; Raper, 3; White, 4. After the run the harriers were entertained at afternoon tea. In thanking Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, Mr. A. Moon, club' secretary, mentioned the fine support which the Wilson .family had given to athletics, both in Auckland and in Wellington. It ACE WITH CYCLISTS A race between harriers and cyclists was held on Saturday over a cross-country course. The cyclists rode part of the journey but had to carry their machines over the rough country and obstacles, R. Linn, cyclist was first to finish and S. Allan, harrier, was second. LYNNDALE CLUB The Lynndale Harrier Club held its annual novice championship and combined handicap race on Saturday afternoon, start- . ing and finishing on the western end of the Avondale racecourse. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB The Presbyterian Harrier Club commenced its run on Saturday afternoon from the residence of the vice-president, Mr, A. E. Odlin. The run was divided into two packs, over a courEe from Mountain Road, the top of Mount F.den into Mount Eden Road, along to Landscape Road, then over Three Kings and along St. Andrew's Road, finishing up in Mountain Road. Neil held the lead in the fast pack, and T. Holmes, of University, ran exceptionally well! After tho run the members were entertained b? Mr. and Mrs. Odlin. EDMOND CUP STEEPLECHASE BARNES ADDS TO HIS RECORD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Sunday Running a confident race from start to finish, J. G. Barnes, of the Civil Servic# harriers (New Zealand mile and crosscountry champion), won the Edmond Cap steeplechase over a three-mile course at Wingatui yesterday afternoon for the fifth time, this making his third successive victory. The overhead conditions were favourable, the w T eat'ner being warm and sunnv. In spite of the heavy naiure of the course Barnes ran one of his best races-, being in either first or second position all the way and being out on his own the second time round. The winner's time, 57m lis, was a meritorious performance considering tlie adverse state of the track. It was 23 seconds faster than his own winning time last year. Barnes was not distressed at any stage.
