TICKET FOR THEATRE FAILURE OF PROSECUTION [by telegraph—press association] GISBORXE, Saturday The decision that no offence had been committed was given by Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., this morning in a prosecution under the Trading Coupons Act, in which Mrs. Eastwood, bookseller, was defendant consequent upon having issued to purchasers of school books to the value of 4s a theatre matinee The magistrate held that the law provided that coupons should be redeemable for cash, but there was no section which said that if a person contravened that provision would be liable for the offence. Further, though the defendant was charged with having redeemed coupons, the magistrate did not think she had redeemed them.
