THEFT AT WAIHI GARAGE SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT A plea of guilty was entered by Roy George Cudby, labourer, aged .'3O, who was charged before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police. Court yesterday with stealing £l6 15s 3d, the property of Horace Wrigley, at Waihi on October 12. 1931. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said accused was driving through Waihi and his motor-car ran short of petrol. Accused went to Mr. Wrigley's garage to obtain petrol. No one was there and 110 took the money from the till. Accused was at present serving a sentence and he admitted the offence when asked about it in gaol. A sentence of. six months' imprisonment was imposed, the term to be concurrent with the present sentence. "This young man is worthy of a chance," said the magistrate, in allowing probation for two years in the case of Thomas Daniels, seaman, aged 21, who admitted charges of .obtaining £3 19s 3d and a packet of cigarettes at Thames by means of a valueless cheque, incurring a liability of 10s with a boarding housekeeper at Waiuku, thereby obtaining creilit by fraud, and stealing a suitcase and clothing to a total value of £5 16s 3d.
David Asher, labourer, aged 22, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing an overcoat valued at £2 10s, the property of C. S. Grove, and an overcoat valued at £1 17s 6d, the property of J. Copeland. It was stated by tho police that accused took a coat from a motor-car and Constable Quirk arrested accused when he saw him wearing the stolen article. Accused admitted the other charge. Ho had been in trouble previously. A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed.
