NEW LYNN BOROUGH

REVALUATION REFUSED An application for the revaluation of the New Lynn borough was refused in a letter from the Valuer-General received at a meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council on Monday. The application was declined on the grounds that the district was revalued in 1931 and that there were many districts with better claims than New Lynn. The Mayor, Mr. G. W. Lawson, who presided, said there were so many people making application for the revaluation of their holdings as farming land /that the depreciation in the general revenue of the borough was becoming serious. Application would be mado for revaluation to bo granted next year. Four years ago, the unimproved value of the district was £250.000, while the current value was £186,000. Many property owners had taken advantage of a certain section of the Act, knowing that the Government would not purchase, thus depreciating the value of the land to a very low figure. It had to be understood that any serious drop in land values would result in a corresponding riso in borough rates if the council were to meet its obligations.
