WAR ON REDS
GERMANY AND AUSTRIA DRASTIC STEPS TAKEN (Received May 28, 5.5 p.m.) BERLIN, May 27 The German Cabinet at a five hours' sitting promulgated laws confiscating the entire funds and property of the Communist Party and its affiliated organisations and providing for a shipping subsidy of £1,000,000. A message from Vienna says the Austrian Cabinet has decided upon the dissolution of the Communist Party on the ground of its subversive and illegal activities.
COMMUNIST JOURNAL REAPPEARANCE EXPLAINED (Received May zB, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 27 A message from Berlin says citizens were surprised to see a suppressed Communist evening newspaper, the Weltamabend, again for sale in tho streets. A representative of tho British United Press on inquiring at the editorial offico was informed: "We have been harmonised and our staff now is Nazi."
