CAR SMASHES POLE
IMPACT AWAKENS RESIDENTS TELEPHONES INTERRUPTED With a crash, which awakened many people in the vicinity, a motor-car struck a telegraph pole in Owen's <Road, Epsom, about sis o'clock yesterday morning. The pole was broken off at the base by the force of the impact, but residents were surprised to see that the motor-car, apparently little damaged, was in a condition to be driven away under its own power. There was no evidence to show that the occupants had been injured. The pole carried power lines in addition to telephone wires, and as it was feared that considerable danger might result from live wires, a resident maintained a patrol until Auckland Elec-tric-Power Board officials had carried out temporary repairs. Later in the morning, Post and Telegraph linesmen restored several telephone services which had been interrupted.
