NOTES ON THE FORM VOITRE SECURES 113 TH WIN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] P.ALMERSTON NORTH. Saturday Pahu, favourite for the hurdles at Woodville to-day, was given time to settle down, but at one etage when going up on the inside was knocked back. He came again at the finish, but jußt failed to head oil Luna Lux. He looked unlucky. Vitaphone ran a good race and had he jumped bettei might have won. , Ebeum, at double figures, was always hanc'ly in the running of tho Ahuaturanga Handicap and beat Dick Whittington well after Voitre on the latter had got a great run through on tho rails into the straight. Anemometer, Lady Ronald, were third and fourth. Both finished well from a long way back, as also did Priscilla Verne, who should run well at Otaki. Fairway won tho Jubilee Cup li.k© ft good horse. Ho was in the rear in tho early running and then came forward in the straight, where Tnkakua and Cape Fair were tlio leaders. Fairway gradually wore this pair down to win going away. Takaßau ]ust beat Cape Fair. Courtyard and Lucky Alice were next, with nothing between them. Copper King had every chance, but was not good enough. , Hazoor, who was at a good price considering his form at Pahiatua. scored decisively in tho Hopeful Stakes from an outsider, Windward, but had the latter been better ridden he would have been hard to beat. They finished well clear of tho others. Queen's Diadem showed speed, but failed to run on. Tudor got c"! poorly. Thrasher went on with his winning form in the Matahiwi Handicap. He was in the middle of tho field early, but finished too eolidly for Chief Marionette, giving Voitre his 113 th win. Kalmuk came from a long way back for third, just boating lareha. who was mado a lot of use of. . Royal Hunting jumped away well in the Ngawapurua, Handicap and was never headed. Foreign Queen and Hunting Lodge, who might have troubled him, got off poorly and had no chnnco of getting to him. Later Hunting Lodge also hung out very badly. Tho winner is improving all tho time. Curio was always prominent in the Goldfinch Memorial Handicap and won by two lengths from All Humbug, who finished well, with Leisure a fair third and Orby s Choice and Slippery next. DERBY CANDIDATE LAMENESS DEVELOPED (Received May 28, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 27 A Derby candidate, Locliiel, pulled up lamo to-duy. Locliiel, owned by Mr. J. A. Dcwar, is a colt, by Coronach—Una Cameron, hence half-brother to Cameraman, winner of tho Derby in 1031. Locliiel started three times as a two-year-old last season, his only placing being third to Hyperion and Jesmond Dene in tho Dewhurst Stakes, seven furlongs, at Newmarket. Lochiel scored a runaway triumph in tho Craven Stakes at Newmarket m April, thus making a good start as a three-year-old and drawing pointed attention to his Derby prospects.
