LYCEUM CLUB
MUSIC CIRCLE LECTURE ON BRAHMS Members of the music circle of the Lyceum Club were entertained last evening by an interesting lecture on " Brahms " by Mr. E. Varley Hudson, together with songs and pianoforte solos illustrating the composer's works, and also gramophone records. The speaker dealt briefly with the life of Brahms and then described much of his chief work, pointing out the style and characteristics which appeared. To illustrate the composer's orchestral music Mr. Hudson played several gramophone records of the I ourth Symphony, and another record played was the vocal trio for ladies' voices only, "Come Away, Death." Two of Brahms' songs, "Faint and Fainter is My Slumber" and "Death is the Cooling Night," were sung By Miss Berta Carr, and a Brahms Rhapsody and an 'lntermezzo were played by Miss Cherry Anderson. Supper was s.erved at the conclusion of the evening.
