WEEK-END SPORT
RACES AT AVQNDALE SUMMER AND WINTER GAMES Both summer and winter sports are included in a comprehensive programme of fixtures for the week-end. The Avondale Jockey Club will commence its autumn meeting to-day and some good racing is expected. All three codes of football will play a series of games. The opening of the Association football season will be marked by a seven-a-side tourney. Rugby arrangements include senior and practice games, and there is a League exhibition match between Devonport and Marist. Cricket games are to be played this afternoon under the auspices of the Suburban Association, and in addition there are senior grade B matches. Many bowling clubs are holding competitions and inter-club games. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's programme comprises the final events of the official season —a cruising race for keel yachts and a harbour raco for the M class. Harbour and cruising races have also been arranged by several other sailing and cruising clubs. A variety of games and competitions are to be played by golf clubs in the neighbourhood of Auckland. At the Auckland Club there is a bogey scramble, the second round of the Taylor bowl at Titirangi, the first round of the Kingswell Shield at Mauugakiekie, and the first round of the Hpwey Walker Cup at Glendowio At cycling, the opening of the road season is a fixture under the auspices of the Manukau Amateur Club and the Auckland Club, and a 12£ miles road race will be held by the Lynndalo Amateur Club this afternoon. Harrier racing opening ruus will be held by members of the Lynndale and Calliope Clubs.
