McKenzie, had a narrow escape at the Middleton railway crossing last evening, when the back of his motor-car was struck by a train and considerably damaged. Mr. McKenzie, who received only slight injuries, stated that trees obscured his view of the crossing. He was only 12 yards off the line when he first saw the train. He knew if he braked his car it would stop on the line. He therefore accelerated, but the engine stalled, and tlie train struck the car. The car was carried 20 yards down the line and pushed through a fence, the back wheels being broken and a portion of the bodywork crumpled.
