NOKOMAL OPERATIONS The plant at Nokomai (Central Otago) is now in full operation. The designer, Mr. J. S. Whitaker, who lias returned to Auckland, states that the large dragline has proved a success for dealing with alluvial deposits of a depth of 90ft., which are obtaining at Nokomai. The disposal of the tailings has proved a problem, causing delay in getting the undertaking under way. -This has been overcome by a system of bolt stackers, and what is an innovation to this country, the introduction of a dewatering plant. The plant has been designed to handle a yardage of up to 200 yds. an hour and has after a. thorough trial proved most successful. Already over SO,OOO cubic yards of top material have been removed, and next month should see the machine digging on payable values which are at the bottom of the 90ft. wash.
