OPPORTUNITY IN EAST PRODUCE FROM DOMINION [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE. Shipping companies have offered to ply direct between New Zealand ports and eastern ports ii' cargoes arc available," said Mr. A. S. Tetzner ii, an address on prospective new outlets for New Zealand produce at a meeting of tho Pukckohe Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr. Tetzuer, who is at present living at Fatumahoc, explained that his knowledge ol tho East was gained during 10 years as manager of largo British conuncicial enterprises there. China was a vast held open to all for commerce, ho said. 'Jariffs wero light and wore levied for revenue purposes only. There was no discrimination between tho goods of ouc country and those of another. China was now turning her attention to secondary industries and would be requiring increasing quantities of raw material such as wool, continued Mr. Tetzner. Japan was also becoming a hi"- buyer of Australian and New Zealand wool. Malaya, Dutch East Indies, the West Indies, South American countries and African countries offered other fields where New Zealand and Australian commerce could probably be developed. Money would bo needed to test tho prospects, but lho Z^1 - land Meat Board alone had 1100,0(H) accumulated for tho development ot new markets for Now Zealand meat. It was decidod that tho chamber bo represented at the, convention at 1 <ilmerston North next week to secure inter-district co-operation for the development of new markets for fsow Zealand's surplus produce.
