NO WORD OF LAUNCH
FISHING IN THE NORTH THREE MEN ON BOARD Inquiries are being made regarding the fishing launch Betty G., which left Auckland about 20 days ago and has not been reported since. On board the launch are Messrs. Bruce and Thomas Gibb, the owners, who belong to Hamilton, and Mr. John H. Smith, of Otorohanga. When the party left Auckland it was their intention to proceed to northern waters to fish and make their headquarters at Whangaroa. - Since then they have not sent any fish from Whangaroa to Auckland, nor has any communication been received from them. Eisliermen who have returned to Auckland from the north did not see the launch or hear of her whereabouts. The Betty G. is a 40ft. launch fitted with a motor engine. Her registered number is AX2193. Her previous name was Ngaru, and she was formerly used for fishing off Raglan and Kawhia, on the west coast. About two months ago she was brought to Auckland, being taken overland from Onehunga on a motor-lorry. After reaching Auckland the launch was overhauled and refitted before commencing fishing on this coast.
