AVONDALE RACES

Fields foe satukday LIST OF ACCEPTANCES NINE IN CHIEF EVENTS FOLEY MEMORIAL CONTEST Acceptances for the opening of tlie '.Avondnle Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting on Saturday are in some cases small, lmt on the whole satisfactory. With the exception of the Whan Handicap, for vhich race only six remain in, an r. vera go of 11 horses a race should ensure keen competition. The hack races have drawn good fields of 23 and 15 respectively and the competition in this class should as usual be strenuous. For the chief events, the Foley Memorial Handicap and tho Railway Handicap, an acceptance of nine in each case has been received. These include winners of principal events at Ellerslie and others who ran prominently in those races, so that with the readjustment of weights spirited competition is likely. The Foley Memorial Handicap field includes/ such good horses as Taneriri, Merry Damon and Royal Artist, the A.R.O. Autumn Handicap winner Master Krierly, L'Allegro and four other useful middle-distance performers. In the event of further rain Taneriri and Grand Tea will come into favour, but at present there may be a disposition to respect the chances of Master Brierly, L'Aliegro and Royal Artist. Some very good sprinters will contest tho Railway Handicap, and those who have recent form are Manawhenua, Kager Rose, Lordly Knight, CI reek Gold, Hampton Park and British Columbia, the last two being the first and second place-getters in ;i great race for the Huia Handicap at Ellerslie. Tradesman and Instalment are other very speedy horses and speculation on this race is likely to take a wide range. Lordly Knight, Greek Gold, Hampton Park and British Columbia are all assured of good support. Other races have drawn even fields, and the club needs only to be favoured by weather conditions to have a successful opening on Saturday.
