THEFT OF SHOVEL
RELIEF WORKER FINED [BY TELEGRAMI OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Wednesday A plea of guilty was entered by John Patrick Conaghan at the Police Court to-day to a charge of stealing a shovel, the property of the Whangarei Harbour Board. Senior-Sergeant Powell said a number of tools issued to relief workers on the Harbour Board's reclamation works at Kioreroa had disappeared, and Conaghan had admitted this particular theft. The justices, Messrs. W. Jones and F. A. Farmer, imposed a fine of £l, and ordejpd accused to make restitution. The justices intimated that any similar case would in future bo treatod more seriously.
