CANON H. G. MONROE SUB-DEAN OF SOUTHWARK LONDON. April 17 A special correspondent (if tlio News Chronicle .states that tragedy has overtaken the Berengaria, mi which the Prime Minister is travelling to New York. Canon 11. G. Monroe, sub-Dean of Soullnvark, who was proceeding lo Newfoundland to recover from an illness following his wife's dentil al Christmas, disappeared. Ho is presumed to have fallen dverboard. Canon Monroe had been suh-Dean of Soutlnvark Cathedral since 1930. He was born in September, 1872, a. son of (lie late ilr. John Monroe, Judgo of tho High Court of Justice in Ireland, lie was ordained curate of St. Ann's, Dublin, in 1890, and was private eha'plain to the Lords Lieutenant of Ireland. He was (lean's vicar of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, 190M-I. rector of Great Witley with Kittle Witley and Hillhanipton, Worcestershire, "IDO 1-1); vicar of Mortlako with lOast Sheen. Surrey, 1909-18; and vicar and rural dean of Wimbledon, 15718-30. Canon Monroe was editor of the j Worcester Diocesan Magazine 1908-9; honorary secretary of the Soutlnvark Hoard of Missions. 1914-18; and nroetor in Convocation, diocese of Soutlnvark. 1920. He was the author of several publications. Mr. Monroe's wife, whose death is also recorded in the cablegram. formerly was Miss Alice Stokes, daughter of Dr. G. T. Stokes, Professor of Kcclesiastieal History, Dublin ' University. '
