NOTABLE WOMAN DOCTOR
Dr. Christine Murrell, tlio first woman member of tho Council of the British Medical Association, has been nominated for election to the General Mediclil Council. There are three vacancies on tho council and Dr. Murrell has been put forward by one of tho divisions of tho association. Tho election will take place in November, states our London correspondent. Dr. Murrtell is still the only woman on the council of tho British Medical Association, to which sho was elected in 1924, although there are nearly 0000 women doctors in the United Kingdom. Sho has been previously nominated for election to the General Medical Council, but this year her election is regarded as more likely. A specialist in mental diseases, sho is chairman of the Kensington Division of the British Medical Association and treasurer of the Medical Women's Federation. She is a champion of the rights of women, but insists on equality of opportunity for men and women. Her publications include " Womanhood and Health " and ""Woman Workers in Seven Professions." During tho war Dr. Murrell was chairman of tho executive committee of the Women's Emergency Corps and later became president of tlio Women's Election Committee.
