SOCCER IN URUGUAY "It's football from the cradle to the grave out there," says a Paris writer on Soccer in Uruguaya. "I have seen a youthful spectator take off his in the colours of his club —and wave it on the end of a stick till lie was exhausted. Photographs of famous players are in thousands of Uruguayan homes and cafes. On the days of groat matches, its seems'that all the men, except the very old, forsako the towns for tlio football field. Montevideo has a ground that will hold 120,000. Attendances are extraordinarily big when the si7,e of population and trade depression are considered. Tlio rivalry with neighbouring countries, especially with the Argentine, whom Uruguay heat in the World Soccer Cup final two years ago, is a little too keen to be healthy. The- Continent ranks Uruguay as high as Britain in football ability, with Austria next."
