MOKE NOMINATIONS LISTS CLOSE TO-DAY CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES POLLS TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH Nominations for tho Auckland city and suburban municipal elections, which inchulo the urban seats on tho .Auckland Harbour Board and Auckland Hospital Board, will close at noon to-day. A considerable number of candidates was nominated yesterday for election to all the bodies concerned. Tho elections are on May 3. So far, only one candidate has been nominated for tho Auckland Mayoralty, namely, the present Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison. Mr. H. G. 11. Mason, M.P., who contested the office unsuccessfully two years ago on behalf of Labour, was recently named again as the Labour candidate. Thirty-two candidates bad been nomjnated up to last evening for the 21 peats on the City Council, tho number including the full official Labour ticket of IS candidates. Thirteen sitting members of the council were in the list. Harbour and Hospital Boards Five and seven candidates have been nominated -for the city seats on the Harbour Board and the Hospital Board respectively. The Labour Tarty has entered one candidate for the Harbour Board and five for the Hospital Board. Parker. Comparatively few nominations have been received so far for the borough council elections. In some cases, including New Lynn. Northcote and Takapuna, none have yet come to hand. It appears that many of the Mayors will be re-elected unopposed and it is possible that, some councils will be returned without the need of an election. At Mount Albert and Onehunga, however, there are already three candidates for the Mayoralty, and at Mount Eden, Otahuhu and Takapuna there are two. PREPARATIONS FOR POLL .VOTING BY CROSS IN CITY Arrangements for the municipal election poll in Auckland City are being carried forward"bv the returning officer, Mr. P. F. Notle'y. The supplementary roll is now being printed and is expected to be available next week. There will be about 40 polling places. A staff of some 600 men will be required, about 400 being deputy-returning officers and poll clerks./and the remainder will bo assistants for the connt of votes. Under the recent special legislation Noting for,all elections in the city will be by a cross. This is expected to facilitate the count very much and to reduce the number of informal votes. Election addresses will be given this evening by Mr. -T. McNab, who is seeking re-election to the Mount Eden mayoralty, and Mr. J. J. Mulvihill, tho Mount Eden Ratepayers' Association's candidate for the mayoralty. Mr. Mcsupported by his "ticket," will speak at Gordon Road Hall, and Mr. Mul vihi 11 M'ill address electors at St. Barnabas' Hall, Bellevue Road.
