Surtax receipts declined by £7,000,000,. notwithstanding the 10 per cent increase in the rate. Customs and excise are forming an increasingly large proportion of the national revenue. In tho period under review it amounted to '10.9 per cent, compared with 30 per cent in 1930-31.
