OBITUARY
MR. A. G. STEPHENS AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR SYDNEY, April 17 Tho death has occurred of Mr. A. G. Stephens, a leading Australian author and literary critic, who at one time conducted the "Bed Page" of tho Sydney Bulletin. The lato Mr. Alfred George Stephens, author, playwright, musical composer and lecturer, was born in Queensland. He travelled in Australia, Europe and America. He was editor ol "The HooklVllow," 1911-23, and had been a press correspondent and publisher. Mr. Stephens was the author of "Tho Rod Pagan," "The Pearl and the Octopus," "Australian Writers" (series), "Australian Anthem," "A Song for Sydney," etc.; editor, "Phil May in Australia," "On tho Hop," the early poems of R. Quint), W. Ogilvio, J. ilebblethwaite, B. O'Dowd, A. Adams, C. Souter, 11. Church, Boako's poems, Neilson's poems, Bourke's poems, L. Mack's poems, Crawford's poems, Gordon's poems, "On Our Selection," "Sandy's Selection," "Such is Life," "Anzae Memorial" and other Australian books (upward of 30 volumes of verse, prose and designs). Ho was lecturer on Australian literature for Sydney University, Extension Board, and ti'ie Tutorial Board. At one time lie was on the staff of tho Evening Post, Wellington. tr
