DOMINION PRODUCE

\ EXTENSION OF MARKETS 5 j PUBLICITY IN ENGLAND [from our OWN l LONDON, March 9 The Yorkshire publicity campaign in 1 connection with New Zealand produce, j Vliich began at Bradford, met with - groat success at Huddersfield. A shop 3 was taken in the main shopping street 3 of the town and a large number of r samples were sold. Except on the two last days, when Yorkshire was snowed under, the place was thronged and people had to queue up to buy their samples of butter, cheese and honey. Both tho Dairy Board and the Meat Board held window-dressing competitions, 32 retailers entering for the dairy display and 16 for the meat display, the b latter figure including butchers at the neighbouring town of Halifax. The prizes for these competitions were presented by the Mayor, who kindly paid a visit to the shop. His Worship, who is a prominent manufacturer, took a very great interest in the display. Although the produce boards are primarily responsible for tho campaign, it is essential to introduce the official elei ment and make the campaign n national movement. Only in this way is it possible to enlist the sympathy of the 1 higher municipal officials. Posters appeared on 100 hoardings , in the town and district. These drew at--3 tention to the shop and to the fact that " a New Zealand Week was in progress. ' They called upon tho people to visit ' the shop and obtain samples and also t to see the displays on the retailers' pref mises. The people were further asked, if they liked the samples, to buy the ■produce from their local retailers. One evening during the week a lecture, illustrated by moving pictures and slides, was given by tho publicity i officer,. Mr. H. T. B. Drew, in one of , tho halls of tho town. The building was ) full, in of the inclement weather. F From Huddersiiekl the campaign is I to be continued at Wakefield. There i tho work will be on behalf of the Dairy 3 Board, tho Meat Board having trans- > ferred its attention to a thorough can- ) vassing campaign at Glasgow. At the present timo the produce boards and the Publicity Department ' have plenty on hand , for the attention ' of their staffs. With tho British Industries Fair stand, the Yorkshire campaign and a display at Messrs. Kennards at Croydon, the publicity organisations aro kept fully occupied. The . Croydon display is now being transferred to the same firm's shop at Wim- ■ blcdon.
