MAR IST CLUBS' CONTEST [BV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WANGANUI. Monday The Spillnne Cup Rugby tournament, between North Island Marint Rugby Clubs, culminated in a narrow victory for Wellington over Gisborne Celtic in the final. Wellington accounted for Wanganui in the semi-final by 15 (o 3, and in the afternoon met a. vigorous Gisborne side. At the call of time the score was three-all. Extra time was played, according to the tournament rule that the first score should decide the matter. From a pretty back movement Macdonald, the Wellington centre, scored as he was' tackled, tlnig winning the match and tlio cup, G—3. Auckland easily defeated Hamilton in the early match of the afternoon by 17 to 8. The Wellington team were awarded the Moran Cud for the best defensive play.
