The deceased was Mr. James Nelson Gallan, a tailor, of Invercargill, who had his neck broken and died instantly. Another passenger, Mr. D. Taylor, was admitted to Riverton Hospital. His condition to-day was not serious. The driver, Mr. A. Young, a butcher, of Riverton, escaped with severe shock, while the fourth occupant of the van was not hurt. The accident occurred when Mr. Young slowed to pass an approaching motor-car. Ho pulled too far to the side of the road, however, and the van skidded in the loose metal and capsized, dropping about 4ft. after leaving the road. The four men were pinned beneath the van.
