SUCCESSFUL OPENING GOLDEN WINGS' TRIUMPH RECORD TIME IN EASTER BILLY BOY WINS HURDLES TOTALIS ATOR INCREASE A great performance by the top- , Weight, Golden Wings, in winning tho Easter Handicap from end to end in record timo was the outstanding feature of spectacular racing at Ellerslie on Saturday, when tho Auckland [Racing Club's Autumn Meeting was opened in fine weather. The steeplechaser, Hilly Boy, winner last year of the Winter Steeplechase at Ellerslie, Wellington Steeplechase at Trcntham and Grand National Steeplechase at Kiccarton, scored a surprise victory in the Brighton Hurdles, paying a doublefigures dividend. In tho Great Northern Oaks the champion filly Silver Scorn easily extended her record to 12 wins in 13 starts. Impasto convincingly won the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. Kiltowyn, winner of the Eden Handicap, paid the largest dividend of the day,, just a little more than Billy 350y. Of the other six winners two wore first favourites on tho win machine, two were second favourites and two wero third favourites. There vcro somo good place dividends. The first trial at Ellerslie of the win and place betting system proved very successful. Tho totalisator handled £3S,SS7, compared with £31,045 on the first day last year, an increase pf £lB-12, or 1-1 per cent.
