FROZEN AND CHILLED MEAT SMITHFIELD QUOTATIONS The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cablegram from its London office, dated April 12, advising that the following were the approximate average prices realised for the weok, basod on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market and/or ox London stores, prices for tho previous week are shown for comparison:—

Lamb Market.—Light-weight is steady, but heavy-weight is inclined to ease. Consumption continues excellent. Mutton Market. —Wethers: Prices lower with trade slow. Ewes: Market" steady and unchanged. Beef Market. —Meeting with poor demand owing to low prices Argentine chilled beef. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—Demand slackening as usual for the time of year. New Zealand Baconer Pigs.—Market quiet. SYDNEY NEWSPAPERS CAPITAL REDUCTION PLAN SYDNEY. April 15 The directors of Associated Newspapers, Ltd.. Sydney, have issued a circular to t(3a shareholders urging the writing down of the ordinary capital by £1,052,120 through a reduction in the face value of the ordinary shares by 10s a share. Preference shares are not to be touched. The capital of the company is £3,593,860, of which £2,104,241 is ordinary and £1,489,619 is 7 per cent cumulative preference. AUSTRALIAN FRUIT SHIPMENTS TO GREAT BRITAIN • During the period from March 1 to November 5, 1932, shipments of canned fruits from Australia to the United Kingdom totalled 475,100 cases, or 12,700 cases more than was shipped in the corresponding period of the previous season. The increase was due mainly to larger exports of pears and pineapples, although most of the minor fruits showed substantial increases. Peaches declined by 110,000 cases, and apricots decreased slightly. Pineapples increased from 1105 cases to 17,684 cases. INVESTMENT COMPANY DIVIDEND OF 5 PER CENT A net profit of £2754 is disclosed in the annual report of the New Zealand Investment, Mortgage and Deposit Company, Limited, of Wellington, for the year ended March 31. With £2934 brought forward, £5688 is available. An interim dividend of 3 per cent paid for the half-year ended September 30, absorbed £1065, leaving £4623 to be dealt with. The payment of a final dividend of 2 per cent, absorbing £7lO, and making 5 per cent for the year, is recommended. Hie directors also recommend that £IOOO be placed to reserve, increasing this to £II,OOO, and the balance of £2913 be carried forward. The dividend compares with 7 per cent paid last year, when profits were £927 higher at £3681. PEARS FOR ENGLAND A SECOND SHIPMENT [BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Saturday A record shipment of pears from Otago to the English market was sent by the motor-ship Port Dunedm, which loaded 32,000 cases.
