SUMMER CONDITIONS CROWDS ON THE BEACHES BATHING AND CAMPING r LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS J Although Easter has fallen later than .lisual this year, the weather in Auckland hiis been remarkably good, tho only small fall of rain occurring at night, and tho days over the holiday period havo been generally fine. Humid conditions on Thursday did not promise well for Good Friday, but the morning was fine, and bright sunshine was enjoyed nearly all day. In tiio evening conditions became threatening, and there was a small fall of rain. Saturday morning it was again clear, but later . tho sky clouded and for a short time there seemed a prospect of further rain. The day, however, regained fine, and tho evening was again jiiild. The most unsatisfactory day of tho holiday period was yesterday. A fine morning gave promise of a summer-like day, but during the afternoon there wore light scattored showers, which were repeated in the evening. In the periods between tho showers it was warm and fairly fine. The small amount of rain which fell did not interfere with sports fixtures, but rather resulted in grounds and tho Ellerslie Racecourse being slightly eased, bringing them into first-class order after the recent dry spell. As each day has been warm, crowds of bathers were out on city beaches during the holidays, while campers and motorists on tour experienced almost ideal weather. However, the strong wind and a choppy sea on the harbour on Saturday mado conditions difficult for small craft. TO-DAY'S ATTRACTIONS MANY ATHLETIC FIXTURES GOLF, TENNIS AND BOWLING A variety of entertainment will be available for holiday-makers in Auckland ,to-day and to-morrow, when a large number of sports fixtures commenced on Saturday will be concluded. If the weather is fine, the various outdoor ovents should bo well patronised, while it is likely that motorists will make the most of the opportunity of taking thejr cars into the country or to the seaside. The second day of the Auckland RacClub's Autumn Meeting at Ellerslio is expected to attract large crowds. The meeting was well patronised when i; opened on Saturday. The annual New Zealand university tournament, which opened on Saturday, will be continued to-day. Baskethall matches between teams representing thp four colleges will take place at the Auckland College this morning, and in the afternoon the athletic events will be decided at the Domain. The swimming will take pi act at the Tepid Bath? this evening. The Auckland provincial golf championships will be continued at Middlemore to-day, and there will be an open tourney at Maungakiekie. Other clubs tare arranged various matches. The Auckland Bowling Centre's annual Easter tourney will be continued at .various greens, and post-section play / will commence at the Carlton green • to-morrow. Another sports fixture of importance set down for to-day is the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's annual hard-court championships, which will be continued at the Windmill Road courts. , The annual cricket match between Auckland and Victoria University Colleges will be concluded at Eden Park to-day. There will be sports gatherings at a n'imber of country centres. The South Auckland Band Contest Union will continue its competitions at Hamilton to-day. To-morrow the golf championships "will be concluded, and the finals of the university tennis will be played on the Stanley Street courts. There will also bo bowling at the C'arlton green. Special excursions by rail, road and launch or steamer to various pleasure resorts to-day are expected to be well patronised.// Fine weather should see the many beaches within easy distance of the ci'ty thronged with holidaymakers. Special programmes have been arranged at the various picture theatres, and there will be dancing at a number of cabarets this evening.
