NORTHERN COUNTIES
AMALGAMATION PROPOSED The advisability of amalgamating the four northern counties, Hokianga, Mangonui, Bay of Islands and Whangarott, has been raised by the Mangonui County Council, which has suggested that a conference) of the four bodies should bo held. When the Hokianga County Council received advice of the proposal at its last meeting the chairman, Mr.. A. C. Yarborough, said .that he thought the proposal was a step in the right direction. Tho time had arrived when, in the interests of economy, comparatively small country nreafi should be replaced by larger disti icts. After a number of members had expressed similar views, it was decided to attend tho conference, delegates being appointed.
