VICE-REGAL POST
GOVERNOR OF TASMANIA SIR ERNEST CLARK LONDON, April 12 Sir Ernest Clark, late Permanent Secretary to the Government of Northern Ireland, has been appointed Governor of Tasmania, in succession to Sir James O'Gradv, who last year was appointed Governor of the I'alkland Islands. Sir Ernest Clark, who was born on April 13, 1864, was called to the Bar, Middle Temple, in 1894. After holding a senior post on the financial side of the Civil Service, ho was for three years associated with Lord Askfield in successful business and financial undertakings on a large scale, and was a director of tho highly organised underground railways of London, and many other companies. There were many pub T lie expressions of appreciation of his work iri South Africa while on loan to the Government of Cape Colony in 19041905, and in Northern Ireland, whero he held the post of Permanent Secretary to the Treasury. Sir Ernest was a member of the Economic Commission which visited Australia and New Zealand in 1928-29. He is well known for his energy, critical faculty, financial ability, and sound judgment, and, in .a long career, has accumulated varied experience and knowledge of business finance and ad- i ministration.
