RETIRING SUPERINTENDENT TRIBUTE TO DR. MacDIARMID [from OUlt OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Thursday Eleven applications were received by the Tauranga Hospital Board for the position of medical superintendent of tho Tauranga Hospital, rendered vacant by the resignation of Dr. J. B. MacDiannid. The board, at its meeting yesterday, decided to forward all the applications to the Health Department, and to hold a special meeting at which the appointment will bo made. Dr. MacDiarmid, in presenting his final report, thanked the chairman and members for their support and loyalty. Mr. B. C. Robbins said tho hospital now possessed a splendid name and the people had the greatest confidence in the institution, and the highest credit was due to Dr. MacDiarmid. The chairman expressed regret that Dr. MacDiarmid had resigned and extended to him tho best wishes of tho board. A motion, appointing Dr. MacDiarmid honorary consulting surgeon to tho hospital was carried. . A letter was read from the St. John Ambulance Association, stating that the latter was making arrangements for the purchase of an ambulance, at a cost of between £4OO and £SOO, and any contribution toward tho running of tho ambulance would bo greatly appreciated. The board decided that a donation of £25 be made to the association, conditional on the ambulance being available for tho year for all hospital cases, without any further charge to the board. The officer in charge of tho Valuation Department, Auckland, advised the board that tho capital value of the constituent districts was as_ follows: —Tauranga County, £2,087,883; Mount Maunganui Town District. £77,436; Tauranga Borough, _ £841,301; To Puke Town District, £307,710. A special meeting was held to consider tho estimates of receipts and expenditure for the year ending March 31, 1934. Tho estimates were approved and will bo forwarded to tho Health Department for final approval.
