NO CHANGE IN POLICY STATEMENT BY CHANCELLOR (Received April 12, G. 5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, April 11 The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, was asked in the House of Commons to-day for an assurance that before the Government was committed to any steps designed to secure the early return of Britain to the gold standard an opportunity would bo given for a discussion of the subject by the House. lii reply the Chancellor said the House was well aware of the general policy of the Government on the question. That policy would not be changed without an ample opportunity being given for discussion. Asked whether the considerable increase in the Bank of England's stock of gold had anything to do with the Government's policy Mr. Chamberlain replied in the negative.
