TWO MEN IMPRISONED ATTEMPT TO STEAL TYRES Three labourers, John Briton Clark, aged 35, Arthur William Geoffrey Mold, aged 29, and George Bernard Cox. aged 25, were charged before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday with attempting to steal two motor tyres, valued at £25 and the property of Ferguson and Kew, at Taupaki on March 31. Mold, who was represented by Mr. Noble, was remanded to appear on April 13, Detective-Ser-geant McHugh stating that Clark and Cox would givo evidence against him. The other two accused pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given that Mold drove Clark and Cox to Taupaki in a motortruck. Several residents were attracted bv noises and noticed that an attempt had been made to steai two tyres from another motor-truck. Clark and Cox were detained and arrested by Constable Rushton, of Henderson.

In evidence, Clark and Cox, who were represented by Mr. Aekins, said ijiey went to the district to obtain firewood, and had nothing to do with any attempt to steal. Both were sentenced to two months' imprisonment, the magistrate commenting that they had previous convictions. Wylie Leonard Kerr Floyd, labourer, aged 21, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a bicycle owned by G. H. Ivey, at Hamilton, and a bicycle owned by E. H. Goodman, at Auckland. Mr. McHugli said accused had been of good behaviour until his lapse. He was remanded until April 12 for sentence.

A charge of being an incorrigible rogue was admitted by Eileen Marmont, domestic, aged 42. She was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
