FARMERS IN COURT
RAGWORT NOT CLEARED ONE MAN FINED £5 [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday Several farmers were charged before Mr. F. W. Platts. S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court to-day with failing to clear their farms of ragwort. The noxious weeds inspector, Mr. C. E. McPliee, said a general warning had been issued in January requiring farmers to clear their farms of the weed before January 31. The farms of J. Beaver and A. W. Fielder were inspected in February and although some work had been done, eradication was not complete. Tho magistrate adjourned the two cases for a month to enable defendants to comply with tho Act.
With respect to the case against Oscar Van Houte, of To Mata, who did not appear, the inspector said defendant had been antagonistic and had refused to comply with the instructions given. A fine of £5 was imposed.
