POSTPONING COMPETITION DISAPPOINTMENT IN AUSTRALIA [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, March 31 Disappointment is expressed in golfing circles that tho Kirk-Windeyer Cup matches aro likely to fall through this year, and tho New South Wales Golf Counci' is being criticised for its decision. Tho council found that several of tho leading players—Ferrier, Bettington and others —would bo prevented by business claims from making the trip to New Zealand this season, and, as nono of the other States is likely to send a team, tho Now South Wales council decided to sond a cablo message to New Zealand asking that tho competition be hold over for 12 months. Many of tho leading players hero aro grievously dissatisfied. They take tho view that the excuse offered by tho Golf Council, that it cannot get together a strong representative team, really amounts to this, that New South Wales will decline to play unless it has a remarkably good chance of winning. One prominent player said that if New South Wales cannot put a team on tho links it should surrender tho cup. Ho contended that to ask Now Zealand to wait until tho cup-holders can securo their best team is unfair to tho Dominion, and reduces the competition to a farce, besides creating a precedent that is not in tho best interests of the gamo.
