BRITISH CRUISERS
NEW TYPE DESCRIBED "A RETURN TO SANITY" LONDON, April 2 After inspecting the 7000-ton cruiser Leander, one of which type probably will replaco the Brisbane, Mr. Hector Bywater, naval correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, pronounces her as a " return to sanity in cruiser construction " and as coming nearer to the' British ideal cruiser than any post-war vessel. The features of the new vessel include a single funnel. She is stream-lined to give a clear run to an aeroplane on board. She has the high speed of 32J knots, great seaworthiness and remarkable gun power considering the comparative smallness of the craft. Nine ships of the Leander type have been authorised, of which tho last will bo ready in 1936. The sister-ships probably will cost less than tho Leander, which will take £1,607,000 to build.
