RETURN OF CITY RATES
ESTIMATE ALMOST REACHED TOTAL OF £442,500 PAID The wisdom of budgeting on a reserve of 14 per cent at the beginning of the financial year has been shown by the amount of money received by the Auckland City Council in rates for tho year ended March 31. It was stated by the Mayor, Mr. G. \V. Hutchison, yesterday that the actual amount received in rates was £442,500, which represented 85.4 per cent of the amount levied. The council had estimated that it would receive at the end of the year 86 per cent of the rates, and this would have totalled £444,330. This was fairly accurate budgeting, said the Mayor. Although th« amount was a little less than ho had hoped for he regarded it as satisfactory in view of the economic situation. POSITION AT HAMILTON SATISFACTORY RESPONSE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday Rates paid in Hamilton for the year ended March 31 totalled £63,550, including £6150 due for previous years.
