ROTORUA INTERESTS
FAREWELL PARTY The members of the Rotorua Croquet Club held a most enjoyable afternoon at the Government Gardens to farewell Mrs. W. H. Speer, who is leaving shortly to take up her residence in Waiuku. Competitive croquet was played, and in the play-off of the A section of a tie between Mrs. C. R. Lloyd and Mrs. E. La Trobo Hill, Mrs. Hill proved to be the winner, while Mrs. J. Banks was successful in winning the B section. The first prize for the winner of the A grade section was donated by Miss Peterson, president of the Newtown Club, Wellington. Afternoon tea was served at the club pavilion. At tho close of the afternoon Mrs. J. Halkett presented Mrs. Speer with a beautiful bouquet. Mrs.* B. M. Green, vice-president of the club, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Speer with two handsome brass candlesticks, and expressed tho general regret of the members that Mrs. Speer was compelled to relinquish her duties as president before completing her term of office. Those present included: Mrs. W. H. Speer, Mrs. B. M. Green, Airs. .T. R. Btencowe, Mrs. J. Halkett, Mrs. C. R. Lloyd, Mrs. W. W. P. Hall, Mrs. W. T. Pakes, Mrs. .T. McDowell, Mrs. E. La Trobo Hill, Mrs. Skene Dixon. Mrs. W. L. Richards, Mrs. C. H. C. Worthington, Mrs. J. Banks, Mrs. C. Griffiths, Mrs. F. Moorhouse, Mrs. F. C. Bunyard, Mrs. Collide, Mrs. Thomson, Mrs. M. Mans,on, Mrs. D. Herd, Mrs. Malcolm, Mrs. D. M. Ford, Mrs. E. Robinson, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. R. B. Nesbitt, Mrs. T. Parata, Mrs. H. J. Hele.v, Mrs. Keane, Miss S. Snodgrass and Miss G. Pakes. Miss Joan Hodgson was hostess last week for members of tho afternoon reading circle of the Rotorua Women's Club, at her home in Arawa Street. The plav chosen for the reading was "Much' Ado About Nothing," which was ably read from sight. Those present included: Mrs. H. Bertram, Mrs. N. M. Keane, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. H. H. Davis, Miss D. Hodgson, Miss D. Griffiths, Mrs. G. La Trobo Hill, Mrs. E. Sharpo, Miss M. Mactier and Miss H. Ford. Airs. T. Jackson left by the Monterey for Sydney where she will spend a liolidav with relatives. Miss Mable Sharpe. of Christchurch, is visiting Mrs. J. Morgan, Pukuatua Street.
