MUSICIAN SENT TO GAOL "SYMONDS STREET NUISANCE" " This man has been a continual nuisance in Svmonds Street recently," said Detective-Sergeant Doyle, when Alfred James Massey, aged 66, a musician, was charged in the Police Court on Saturday with being an incorrigible rogue, in that he possessed insufficient lawful means of support and had been previously convicted as a rogue and vagabond. After accused had stated that he would leave for the country, Mr. Doyle said he was a menace to the community, and numerous complaints had been received from shopkeepers. He had been given many previous chances. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., imposed & sentence of three months' imprisonment. Two men who were arrested at Taupaki by Constable Rushton early on Saturday morning, John Briton Clark, aged 35, and George Edward Cox, aged 25, both labourers, were charged with attempting to steal two motor tjres, valued at £25, from a motor-lorry, the property of Ferguson and Kew. Accused were remanded for a week, bail being fixed at £IOO each. In applying for the remand, Mr. Doyle said a third man had yet to be arrested, while, it was possible that further charges would be brought against accused. When Henry George Delves, aged 25, farm hand, appeared for sentence on charges of stealing a gold wristlet watch and 4s at Auckland on March 19, and of stealing £2 10s at Opotiki on December 25, it was stated that he had robbed people who had befriended him. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months and to remain for six months in the care of the Salvation Army, while restitution totalling £2 u4s was ordered to be made.
