PICTURES ON GOOD FRIDAY An application by Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, for permission to screen talking - pictures in the Rialto Theatre, Newmarket, on. tho evening of Good Friday.was considered by tho Newmarket Borough Council last evening. Oh .the motion of tho Mayor, Mr. .S. Donaldson, a recommendation by the Legal and Finance Committee that the request be acceded to subject to tho pictures to be screened meeting with tho approval of the Mayor and chairman, was unanimously carried. The Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association was- authorised to take up a street collection in tho borough on Friday, April 21- ("Poppy Day"), and tho Community Sunshine Association .was granted permission to -take up a street collection on Friday, May 26. A request from tho Young Women's Christian Association for a similar privilege was declined*
