FORMER IMMIGRANT SHIP END OF THE COROMANDEL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday The hulk Coromandel, one of the most historic in Wellington. Harbour, will be towed out to sea at 8 a.m. to-morrow and sunk. The Coromandel, a barque of 848 tons, was built at Glasgow in 1875 and brought a large number of immigrants to New Zealand. She completed seven voyages and was then engaged in the intercolonial trade for several years. In 1896 the Coromandel almost became a total wreck at Westport, but was refloated. Later she was towed to the RailJ way Wharf at Wellington and keeled over jat her berth. She was not raised until nearly 12 months afterwards. The Coromandel was subsequently dismantled and converted into a coal hulk.
