WHANGAREI HARBOUR

REMOVING ONERAHI WHARF WORK AT KIOREROA [FROM OUR OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Friday A report presented by the engineersecretary, Mr. W. M. F laser, to the Whangarci-'Harbour Boatd to-day stated that the wliolo of the board's portion of tlie wharf at Onerahi had been removed to Kioreroa. Good progress ' was being made with the construction of the wharf at Kioreroa and the approach to the wharf had been commenced. The board received a letter from ratepayers at Maungalapere protesting against the levy of one penny in the pound. The letter also recommended that the board's £IOO,OOO loan should be converted. Protests regarding the levy were also received front the ratepayers of Maungakaramea and from the Waipu Dairy Company, Limited.

The chairman, Mr. J. A. Finlayson. said that ratepayers were quite just.fied in their views, but none of them had put forward any alternative. The letters were received.

After the meeting members left in one of the board's launches for an inspection of the outports of Tutakaka, Whananaki and Whangaruru, and to inspect the harbour services. The tour will be completed on Sunday night.
