REPAIRS TO WATER-RACE
WORK STARTED AT THAMES RELAYING WITH PIPE-LINE [Br TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Friday The report of Mr. E. F. Adanis, who for some years was engineer to ' th# Thames Borough Council, was presented at a meeting of the Advisory Committee this afternoon. The report was made by Mr. Adams at the request of the borough commissioner, Mr. G. L. Grange. The report stated {hat the major work of renewing the full flow of the race was quite a considerable one. In the first place the re-erection of the flume as it stood was not possible. What was an effective water-race for some 10 chains was now a wreck, consisting' mostly of rubbish. Only one-third of the iron sheets, and Very little of the timber, would be of value in the new work. Mr. Adanis said the vital xcquirements of the domestic supply would be met by installing 9in. or lOin. pipes on .the general course of the former flume, bolted on to timber cradles for a length of 700 ft.« The estimate of the cost, supplied with' the report was £IO2O, and presuming all the earth-work, whether by open cut on tunnelling could be done by using labour under the No. 5 scheme, £3OO. The committee was unanimous in adopting the report.. The work was started this morning and some pipes have already been placed in position. The whole of the supervision will be in the hands of Mr. Adams.
