RECEPTION ON AKAROA
MANY VISITORS ATTEND An opportunity to inspect a splendid example of the latest development in passenger steamers was afforded yesterday afternoon to over 600 residents of Auckland, who, as the guests of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Line, attended a reception on the steamer Akaroa at Prince's Wharf. The steamer arrived from London and Southampton on Wedonesday evening on her first voyage in the Panama' direct service. The visitors were received by Captain 11. S. Lewis, superintendent for the line in Auckland, and Captain W. H. Hartinan, commander of the Akaroa. The various public rooms and typical cabins were open for inspection and visitors gained an excellent impression of the. fine appointments and spacious accommodation offered to travellers in a modern one-class ship. Refreshments were served and music was provided by the ship's orchestra and the Waterside Workers' Band.
