FIXING OF WAGES
ARBITRATION SYSTEM REQUEST FOR RESTORATION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESa ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The restoration of the original functions of the Arbitration Court and the issue of a general order restoring to workers the reductions made in wages since 1929 were advocated by a deputation of the Alliance of Labour and the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, which waited upon the Piime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and the Minister of Labour, the Hon. A. Hamilton, this evening. The burden placed on town communities as a result of the higher exchange was also mentioned by the deputation. Jn replying. Mr. Forbes said the Government did not legislato in regard to wages. So far as the increasing of the exchange was concerned, ho firmly believed it was for the good of the Dominion as a whole.
