A BELFAST TRIBUTE
ROYAL VICTORIA HOSPITAL FINANCIAL ORGANISER A donation of £SOO has been made to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, to name a bed in perpetuity in the name of Miss Mary Maxwell, of Ballymacbrennan (on the County Down side of Lisburn), in appreciation of her services and ability in the financial aid department of the hospital. Miss Maxwell, who has many friends in New Zealand, joined the financial department in 1916, bringing rare organising ability, devotion and personality to her work. Her activities ensured the department going from success to success and the steadily-mounting totals raised year by year for ths hospital are phenomenal, it was the grateful appreciation of the donor, who, as a member of the committee, had an intimate knowledge of what had been achieved that led to this. happy recognition of Miss Maxwell's work and worth.
In 1916 the tota" raised through the medium of general subscriptions and workpeople's subscriptions was £9659, the following year £15,469. In 1930 the sum of £35.594, a record, was reached, but. in 1931, owing to trade depression, it dropped to £31,525.
