NELSON FRUIT INDUSTRY
EFFECT ON EXPORT VALUES ESTIMATED GAIN OF £40,000 Discussing the exchange question in Nelson last week, Mr. J. H. Thorp, of the Horticultural Division of the Department of Agriculture, stated that the net benefit to tho fruit industry in the Nelson district this season by reason of the higher exchange rato will bo in the vicinity of £40,000 based on an export of 800,000 cases. All the overseas supplies for this season have already been purchased, but next season, if tho higher exchange still operates, supplies from overseas, chiefly strawboard, paper and wire, will bo penalised to tho extent of 15 per cent.
